Are reward/air miles or Low interest credit cards better for me?One of the most important things when filling out credit card applications is making sure you are going to be getting the right kind of credit cards for you. You really have to take a look at your actual spending habits and repayment history. This is what you actually have been doing, not what you want them to be. You might want to be able to pay off your balance every month but in reality, Can You? This is very important in deciding on whether your should be filling out Rewards/Air Miles or Low Interest Credit card applications. If you are the type of person who carries a balance on their credit cards each month, then you should definitely be filling out low interest credit card applications. You should not get hyped into going for a rewards type of card as you will most likely end up paying more in interest than the benefit the card provides. If you have never had any credit cards before, I would suggest you get a low interest card to start. Most people do carry balances each month. It is the minority that actually pays their balances off each month. Obviously, if you are one of the few people who pay their credit cards off each and every month then there is no point in you having a Low interest Credit Card. I am not going to suggest you ask for a higher APR or anything but that should be one of the last things you are looking at. The APR of the credit card applications will not concern since you pay your balance off each month you will not be paying any interest at all so having a high APR isn't going to be a negative or a positive. You do have to ensure you pay off your credit cards each month, if not you will end up paying more. But since you do pay off your balance each and every month, you deserve some sort of benefit. Once you have figured out a reward/air miles card is right for you then you just have to decide of what type of rewards card you want. A lot of people will fill out rewards credit card applications as they see the ads of the great vacations or people getting money back and they think this is the best things. It is looked at as getting something for free as their other credit cards give them none of that. But really, unless they are carrying no balances on their credit cards from month to month they are better off with a low interest credit card. The one other down side to Rewards/Air Miles cards are they tend to have a higher yearly fee that goes along with them. Air miles or Rewards cards are great for those few people who pay their complete balances off each month but most people are better off getting a Low interest credit card.
