What is my next step if my credit card applications have been declined?

If you credit card applications have come back to you being declined you have to realize this is not the end of the world.  There are still options out there for you and you still might be eligible for some sort of credit cards.  There are many different reasons why they might have been declined and you need to find out exactly why yours was.  Most of the time when you credit card applications get declined you will receive a letter in the mail from the credit card company.  This is often a form letter that thanks for applying but due to numerous reasons you were declined.  This letter will often list a number of POSSIBLE reasons but most likely they will not all apply to you.

On the letter you get back saying your credit card applications have been declined, there should be a contact number.  Or it should say somewhere in the letter about contacting them if you have any further questions to why you were declined.  To fully understand you next steps you would need to call them and find out the exact reasons why they declined you.  Just going by the information on the letter does you no good as you do not know what reason is the one that made you get declined.  Once you figure out why they declined you, you should get copies of your credit history form the credit card bureaus to ensure all the information is correct.  If the information is not correct at the credit bureau, you need to get this fixed right away.  You should not apply for any more credit cards until you get your credit history straighten out at the bureau.

If you find our your credit card applications were declined due to you not qualifying for the type of card you were applying for then you need to find out if you are eligible for a different type of card form that company.  If you applied for a platinum card and your income is not high enough, you will be declined.  But this does not mean you might not be able to get a gold credit card or a low interest credit card.  Your limit would be lower than if it was a Platinum card but there are many quality other types of credit cards out there.  If you applied for a regular credit card and your income was still not enough you could apply for a secured credit card or a student credit card, if you are a student.

If you have bad credit history and that is the reason for your credit card applications getting declined then you could apply for a secured credit card.  This is a good way to start rebuilding your credit history for those people who have bad credit history.  These types of cards require you to deposit money in an account and you limit is going to be what ever your deposit was.  If you deposit $250 then your limit is $250, if you deposit $500 then your limit is $500, etc, etc.  You still need to make your payments on time each and every month to ensure you start rebuilding your credit.  If you start missing payments, you credit will not get any better.  But if you do make your payments on time each and every month you should be able to move to a regular card after 6 to 12 months or so.

There are many different options if you credit card applications get declined.  Just remember, you have to know exactly why they were declined in the first place before you can make your next move.
