How Many Credit Card Applications should I fill out?

Every time you fill out any type of credit card applications your credit history is going to be check at the credit bureaus.  This goes for any credit card applications you fill out online or by filling in a paper form and mailing it in.  As a result, your credit is going to be negatively effected if you have too many inquires to the credit bureau in a short period of time.  As a general rule,  I would not suggest you ever apply for more than one or two cards within any given month.

It is a good idea that before you fill out any credit card applications you decide first what kind of credit cards would be best for you.  It is a good idea to figure out what sort of benefits you are going to want from this card.  There are many different credit card applications that you can fill out.  There are Platinum, Gold, Low Interest, Air Miles, Rewards, Secured Credit cards, Student Credit Cards, Business Credit Cards and others.  Each has there own benefits that will help different people in different ways.

You really need to figure out what kind of credit cards you are going to want before filling out any credit card applications.  It is not a good idea to fill out credit card applications for Platinum or Gold Credit cards unless you have good credit.   If you have bad credit or no credit at all it is better for you to apply for a normal or secure credit card first.  This way you can build your credit and after some time of making your payments  you can then move to a Platinum or Gold card.  If you have poor credit already, it is a good idea to apply for a secured Credit card and then after 6 to 9 months of making your payments on time then move to a regular card.

Once you decide which TYPE of card is best for you, then you should decide on what bank you want to apply for.  I normally suggest to keep with the major card companies as there customer support and availability is proven and it makes one less thing you might have to worry about if you come across any problems.  Advanta, American Express, Bank of America, Bank One, Citibank or Discover Bank should give you plenty of choices and different offers for your credit card applications.  Each bank's offer will be slightly different, be sure to check the APR and any other benefits before applying.
