How long does it take for my credit card applications to be approved?

  this is a common question for people who have filled out credit card applications, as they are usually anxious to get the new piece of plastic in their hands.  Not just because they want to start charging up a storm, they might need a credit card for an online purchase, reserving a hotel room, car rental, etc.  Unfortunately, there is no one length of time that all credit card applications take to be processed.  There are a number of different factors that would effect how long it will take.

  It can sometimes take as little as 15 minutes for some credit card applications to be approved but it can also take up to 3 months.  The first thing to do ensure that your application is processed and approved quickly is to make sure you have filled out the credit card applications correctly.  If you have not filled out something or filled in a line incorrectly it can take extra time as the bank or credit card company will have to get back to you in order to have you give them the missing information or figure out what the mistake was.  This can be one of the most common reasons on why it would take up to 3 months to be processed. 

  Another factor that would result in your credit card applications taking more time is how good of credit report you have.  When the credit card companies check your credit history and they see you have perfect credit score, then it is most likely you credit cards are going to be approved sooner.  If your credit history is not as good, it can take longer as they are going to want to ensure you are not a high credit risk and might have to check more things out.

  If you credit card applications have not been approved in a month or so and you haven't heard anything back from the credit card company, I would suggest you contact them and find out the status of your application.  You never know, it might have been lost or misplaced.  You do not want to assume it was declined and start applying for other credit cards.  This could result in all the credit cards you have applied for from all the banks being declined.  If there are too many hits at the credit bureau in a short period of time it is not seen as a good thing. 

  Just be patient if your credit card applications have not been approved after a few weeks but do everything possible when filling them out to ensure they are processed quickly.  Fill out the forms correctly and put down all the information they are asking for.  And do not be afraid to call and ask for an update on the status of your applications.
